Gifted and Talented Education (GATE)

GATE is a program which supports students with exceptional abilities in a broad range of areas including academics, the arts, and leadership. South has honors or GATE Math, History, Science, and English. There are additional activities offered to identified GATE students.

Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID)

South offers six sections of AVID which is a college preparatory program. It is designed to provide academic support for students to take college prep. classes and increase opportunities for students to enroll in four-year universities or colleges.

Academic Pentathlon

This is a junior high level competition for both individuals and teams in math, science, literature, social science, and essay writing. South offers a special preparatory class for the students who participate in the Academic Pentathlon taught by Mrs. Collins.
